I spent twenty years inside a system designed to keep me productive, compliant, and just comfortable enough to stay. Six figures, forty-eight direct reports, seventy-hour weeks—and I was still broke in the ways that matter most. When my wife's health began to collapse and the medical system couldn't give us answers, something cracked open in me that I couldn't close back up. We downsized everything, paid off the debt, and I resigned from a twenty-year career the same afternoon we signed our closing papers. We moved to eight acres with no real roadmap—just faith. I built Upward Pro Wash from the ground up while homeschooling my kids alongside me on every job, watching every customer interaction, learning what work ethic actually looks like in real life. My wife and I bought a struggling print and embroidery business because we saw the potential in it and because she needed something of her own. Some seasons were tight. Some were terrifying. None of it came clean or linear. But every single one of those seasons was ours—and it has delivered far beyond what any corporate job ever could.
